Ford Explorer Gets a Makeover in 2016

When it was first introduced in 1990, the Ford Explorer was the first of its kind. Gone were the days of bland soccer mom minivans and cramped little cars. The Explorer was perfect for those who needed a family-friendly vehicle, but wanted something they wouldn’t be embarrassed to drive around town in. It sent a shock wave throughout the market, and Ford’s sales hit quite an increase.

Fast-forward nearly 15 years later. The Explorer has lost its “new kid on the block” shine and no longer dominates in sales, though it does contribute to Ford’s continued success, with approximately 200,000 of them sold each year. Ford realized it was time to kick it up a notch, and thus, the 2016 Ford Explorer was born.

This new edition of the Explorer is out to attract those who are looking for a more high-end family vehicle. The platinum version of the model is made for those who want everything, those who check all or almost all of the boxes when deciding on extra features for their vehicle.

Although there are a few upgrades as far as the internal make-up of the vehicle goes, the most notable differences are cosmetic. The front of the vehicle sports flashy new LED headlights and a smaller, unique grill. This slimmed down grill includes shutters that close once the vehicle reaches a certain speed to improve aerodynamics, resulting in better fuel efficiency. The rest of the exterior will have chrome detailing to give it the more luxury vehicle look.

Take a seat inside the 2016 Explorer and you might just get a bit of a sensory overload. Ford is often known for making a plastic interior that looks like wood or metal, so when you find real ash wood and aluminum in the new vehicle, it may come as a shock. In addition to the polished woods and shiny aluminum, the seats are made of quilted leather and the doors have upgraded seals that minimize the noise inside the vehicle.

There is no shortage of technology in the 2016 Ford Explorer, either. The platinum options includes a 500-watt Sony audio system, something you won’t find in any other Ford vehicle at this point in time. The sensors and cameras that aid in park assist are even more accurate, as well as the plethora of safety features that are available. This new upgrade even comes equipped with built-in cleaners for both the front and rear cameras on the vehicle.

Everyone has heard of the Ford Explorer, but the 2016 version is sure to add at least a little buzz when it hits the market. Not known for its luxury qualities, this is a bold move for those at Ford. It will be interesting to see if the new luxury version will be embraced by a new crowd, or if it will fall in line with the rest of the trusty Explorers. Visit your local Ford dealer today to learn more about the upcoming vehicle and how you can get one once they officially hit the market.
